| Asian cinema lacks publicity machinery: Experts | | | New Delhi, Aug 05 (PTI) Asian Cinema which churns out thousands of films every year, some of which are award winning, still lags behind Hollywood because it does not have the publicity machinery unlike the later, say film experts. "Hollywood has a fantastic publicity machinery. They promote their films so well across the globe," says Aruna Vasudeva, Founder, Osian Cine Fan that showcased a number of Asian and Arab films during the recently concluded Osian film festival in the capital.
"The important point to be noted is that two-third of the world audience is in Asia, so just imagine the impact if they start seeing their own cinema," she points out.
She considers the lack of publicity as the main hindrance in the growth of Asian films. "We don't do much of publicity. That is the problem," she adds.
It is not only the Asian cinema but also countries like Egypt and various Arab film makers among others keep churning out good movies, she adds.
The just concluded Osian film festival like others can give a platform for Asian Cinemas to be showcased to a much wider audience, feel film makers.
"India can actually help in popularising Asian cinema through film festival as it can provide them a big platform in terms of number of audiences," says Kiran Shantaram, former director of National Film Development Corporation.
Aruna, however, disagrees, "We can't. It's too big to help. But Indian audience should know about the Asian cinema, and festivals are the best way to bring films from across the Asian nations."
