| Tarigami for withdrawing the enhancement of royalty on quarries | | | Srinagar August 06 State Secretary CPI (M) and MLA Kulgam who is also chairman of Assurance Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has urged the government to reduce the rate of royalty to quarry holders of state. He said that the community is facing lot of hardships due to the recent enhancement of royalty adding that the poor quarry holders are unable to bear this unwarranted burden. He has strongly demanded with drawing of the enhanced royalty on quarry holders. This, he said, in a meeting with the deputation of quarry holders coordination action committee of Baramulla, Bandipora who met him this morning. The deputationists apprised him about the various problems and hardships they are now facing with the hike of royalty on minor mineral items under SRO 240. They said with this hike, “we can not blast more quarries under the prevailing situation and have to relay on small quantities of quarry which they extract on manual basis”. Mr. Tarigami appealed the Chief Minister, who has also the charge of Minister of Industries and Commerce to take the serious view of the matter to frame bearable royalty charges for quarry holders so that they run their livelihood smoothly.
