| NH closed, yatra suspended | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, Aug 6: The heavy rainfall which lashed the region since early this morning blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National highway stranding thousands of vehicles on either sides of the landslide prone areas. The only road link between the capital cities remained blocked for about seven hours, as heavy shooting stones blocked the highway in Ramban. The closure of National Highway also halted the batch of Amaranth pilgrims at Ramban. National highway was also closed early this morning due to heavy land slides and shooting stones at Panthiyal in Ramban area. The traffic on National Highway was, however, resumed late this evening. Number of vehicles and people got stranded due to the highway blockage. All vehicular traffic moving to Srinagar was halted at Nagrota. The passenger vehicles were asked to move back to Jammu and trucks and other load carrying vehicles were asked to park in a queue near Nagrota. "All sorts of vehicles are being asked to move back to Jammu as we have got orders from Control Room that National Highway is closed. We got information that heavy landslides have taken place near Ramban and we are stopping vehicles", said M.S Dhar, Traffic in charge at Nagrota. About 567 Amaranth pilgrims were also stranded at Panthiyal .The Border Road organization has started clearing land slides but opening of the road is said to be dependent on fair the weather conditions.
