| PDP working out alliance strategy with Congress | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, Aug 6: After a long drawn war of wits with its coalition partner, the Peoples Democratic Party leadership is sensitising its cadres for fresh electoral alliance with the Congress in run up to the next elections. Magnitude of political battle between the two coalition partners had given the Peoples Democratic Party men to understand that the possibility of an alliance with the Congress for the next elections was not even a remote imagination. Now when the party leadership is dropping hints of alliance, the PDP leaders who have taking the Congress to task on the ground are quite surprised. the PDP's top leadership is now asking its men to prepare their "minds and hearts" for a pre-poll alliance with the Congress. "We have been asked shun the differences and get into cordial relations with the Congress people", said a PDP leader here today. The PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who was in town told his cadres here that an alliance with the Congress was "very much on cards" and therefore the partymen should reorient their public posture accordingly. On Sayeed's directives, a PDP leaders told EARLY TIMES, "we have been told that the time of animosity is over and preparation should begin for working in close coordination with the Congress. The poll strategy in the PDP circles have taken shape to the extent that the ticket seekers are being asked to put their aspirations on hold till a mechanism is worked out with the Congress. Quoting Mufti a PDP leader said, "we are not capable of forming government at our own and striking an alliance with the National Conference is summarily out of question, therefore postures should be oriented to work with the Congress in future.
