| Doves take up the peripheral issues, Geelani sticks to hardline | | | Srinagar/ August 7 The separatist politics in Kashmir has taken an about turn with most of the separatist leaders taking to 'common cause' as their main agenda for highlighting instead of the rhetoric for resolution of Kashmir problem according to people's wishes. But for hardline All Party Hurriet Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, all other separatist leaders are actively involved in highlighting the issues like human rights, support to Indo-Pak peace process and like. Doves among the Hurriet faction have decided to join issue with Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons and hold a 'silent demonstration' on Wednesday to express solidarity with the family members of disappeared persons in Jammu and Kashmir since eruption of militancy.
Hurriet conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will lead the 'silent protest' and later hold a protest demonstration at Sher-e-Kashmir park demanding the whereabouts of the estimated 10,000 persons who have disappeared so far. The government, however, admits to disappearance of about 1000 persons during 18 years of militancy in the state.
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yaseen Malik who is leading Safr-e-Azaadi (Freedom march) for last more than 80 days has also claimed that his march is to strengthen the peace process between India and Pakistan so that an amicable solution acceptable to the people of state is achieved.
It is only hardline leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who is circumventing the peripheral issues and sticking to his oft repeated stand of resolving the Kashmir issue as per the UN resolutions.
