8/7/2007 10:45:42 PM

Srinagar , Aug. 7: For the second consecutive day, the pilgrimage to Amarnath remained suspended due to continuous downpour in valley and mild snow fall on its upper reaches.

For the last three days rains continue to lash the valley rendering both the routes leading to Amarnath cave, slippery.

Continuous rains and intermittent snowfall was also witnessed at the places on higher altitudes.

Spokesman Shri Amarnath Shrine Board Madan Mantoo said that inclement weather conditions being experienced on the upper reaches of the valley has turned both traditional Pahalgam and shorter Baltal route to the shrine slippery,

He said besides down pour on continues intervals, mild snowfall was also experienced at Mahagunus Pass near the holy cave yesterday.

Mantoo however, said that chopper services to the cave shrine, which were briefly suspended yesterday, were ferrying pilgrims to the cave shrine for darshan.
