Many pay tributes to Kak

Srinager, August 7
Union Minister for Water Resources Prof Saifuddin Soz, former Chief Minister and National Conference patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Journalists from Srinagar today paid homage to BL Kak a senior journalist and New Delhi bureau chief of the Early Times who breathed his last some days back.
They also offered condolences and expressed shock over the sad demise of the veteran journalist.
In a condolence message, Soz said that Kak was an experienced professional, who had worked for several National and State newspapers, and written a lot about Jammu and Kashmir, for which he would always be remembered. His death was a great loss to the profession, he said
Former Chief Minister and National Conference patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah also paid homage to Kak and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Senior Kashmiri journalist B. L. Kak who passed away in a New Delhi hospital following suffering brain hemorrhage at the weekend was remembered by his professional colleagues at a condolence meeting held at Srinager.The speakers while paying glowing tributes to Mr. Kak described him as a true professional and a nice human-being.
Veteran journalist Mohammad Sayeed Malik who presided over the meeting said that 'Bansi,' as his friends would call him, was a "great friend" who had the capability of ferreting out news stories from most unlikely sources. Endorsing him Yusuf Jameel (Asian Age) said, "He was different from most of us in the tribe who would always try to do something distinctive." Mr Jameel and Zafar Meraj (Kashmir Moniter) recalled the "malleability" and "politeness" in Mr. Kak's behavior and said that one would always find him smiling even is most difficult situations. Tahir Mohiuddin (Chattan) recalled that during his days with daily Aftab he would meet and talk with Mr. Kak, one of the few regular visitors, almost every day and often he would share off-beat news with his hosts. "This was very helpful as those were the days of news scarcity," he said.
The others who spoke on the occasion included senior photo-journalist Merajuddin .Others who attended the condolence meeting and paid tributes to late Kak included Ehsan Fazili of The Tribune, Ghulam Jeelani Qadiri,editor of Urdu daily Afaaq, , senior photojournlaist Habibullah Naqash, BBC special Correspondent Altaf Hussain, Imdad Saqi of DPA, Srinagar bureau chief of PTI Ali Mohammad Sofi , Srinagar bureau chief of Daily Excelsior, Ahmed Ali Fayyaz and Gulzar Ahmed of Srinagar News. Additional Secretary to Chief Minister, incharge Press and Publicity, Mr Khalid Bashir Bhat, also participated in the condolence meeting.
