| 36 CAPD officials booked for corruption | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, Aug 7: As the war against corruption goes on and the details unfold, it come out that the Consumer Affairs and Public Disbursement department leads many departments in the cases of corruption detected so far. According to the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Taj Mohiuddin, as many as 36 officers and officials of his department have either been booked, their properties attached or their services terminated for their established corrupt practices. He said that embezzlement worth Rs 2.44 Crore has so far been detected in his department. While addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the Minister said that there is no room for corrupt and erring elements in the departments under his control and added that so far 36 such officers and officials have been booked and their properties attached and some of them retired forcibly. He said that an embezzlement of Rs. 2.44 crore has been detected in CAPD department in the shortage of gunny bags and the involved officers and officials have been suspended. He said that the case is being referred to Crime Branch Kashmir for action under law against those involved in the embezzlement. He said that the measures are afoot to streamline the public distribution system in the state and make CAPD and Animal and Sheep Husbandry departments more transparent and people oriented. He said that to cover far off and remote areas under public distribution system and create job avenues for educated unemployed youth more than 2000 private sale outlets have been established in the state. He said that to streamline the distribution of Kerosene Oil coupon system has been introduced and permit system has been withdrawn to ensure that black-marketing of K.Oil is arrested. Taj appealed the consumers that to register their grievances with regards to public distribution, black marketing, over charging and scarcity they can approach the higher authorities of CAPD and added that he can also be contacted for the purpose. He assured prompt action against such malpractices at all levels and said that to ensure action under laws against the defaulters and violators the consumers would have to be will full for being witnesses. He said that a modern sheep mandi and abettor is under construction at Wanihama over 350 kanals of land. He said that the mandi could accommodate 5000 sheep besides a modern slaughter house and mutton sale outlets are also coming up in the mandi. He said the mandi being constructed by Wool Board would be completed by this year end. Reacting to news reports in some local dailies alluded to him, Taj strongly refuted these reports and termed them baseless and far from the reality. He said that it can be handiwork of some frustrated elements and added that he would sue the concerned news agency and local dailies under defamation.
