| Yatra held for second day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu, Aug 7: With another day of inclement weather in the Kashmir Valley , the holy Amarnath yatra remained suspended for the second consecutive day today. Rains continued to lash the valley for the third day, rendering the 46 km traditional Pahalgam and 16-km shorter Baltal routes to the shrine slippery, a spokesman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board said. Besides rains, mild snowfall was also witnessed at Mahagunus Pass near the holy cave yesterday, the spokesman said. However, chopper services to the cave shrine, which were briefly suspended yesterday, were ferrying pilgrims to the cave shrine for darshan, the spokesman said. No pilgrim was stranded on the routes. The pilgrims on way to the cave shrine have been asked to remain in shelter sheds set up at several halting stations en route to the shrine till the weather improves, he said. Around 2,000 pilgrims are putting up at various halting camps en route to the cave shrine, he added Earlier, a fresh batch of 967 pilgrims left from Jammu base camp for the holy cave shrine. The pilgrims left in a fleet of 25 vehicles from MAM stadium at Jammu.
