| CM on city monitoring tour, reviews works, pulls officers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER
Jammu, Aug 8: During his 3-hour long tour of Jammu city today, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad inspected pace of work on several important development projects taken up by the government as infrastructure expansion programme.
The Chief Minister inspected the under-construction 200 bed additional paediatrics ward at SMGS Hospital. The facility is coming up at a cost of Rs. 16.24 crores of which Rs. 4 crore have been spent so far.
The Chief Minister asked the project executing agency to lay a beautiful park for patients on the available land.
At Dental Hospital where academic block and hostels for boys and girls are being constructed, the Chief Minister was informed that the academic block would be completed by September and the hostels by December this year. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 15.92 crores.
The Chief Minister also visited the under construction 5-storey OPD block of Gandhi Nagar Hospital involving an expenditure of Rs. 9.41 crore and issued instructions for its completion by May 2008. An amount of Rs. 1.80 crore has been spent on the project so far.
Other projects inspected by the Chief Minister today include rehabilitation of existing primary drains and construction of new secondary drains at Chinore, rehabilitation and channelisation of Landoichoi primary drain at Trikuta Nagar and rehabilitation of nallah at Indira Chowk.
The ADB funded and ERA executed Chinore nallah project is estimated to cost Rs. 22.8 crore. Azad asked the concerned authorities to simultaneously take up work on filling up and leveling of land available on both banks of all nallahs in the city and develop green belts and parks for the beautification of the city. He asked divisional commissioner to notify this land and ensure that it was not encroached upon by anybody. The entire project includes rehabilitation of 22 nallahs with a total length of 23 kilometres. The project would be completed by March 2009.
At Indira Chowk, the Chief Minister asked the engineers to complete the work on rehabilitation of the nallah on war footing before October. The scheme is estimated to cost Rs. 2.50 crore.
At Trikuta Nagar, the nallahs is being developed at a cost of Rs. 17.04 crore. So far an amount of Rs. 1.5 crore has been utilised.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to execute these works round the clock in three shifts. He said quality, workmanship and time bound completion of projects should be the bottom line.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for R&B Gulchain Singh Charak, legislators Yogesh Sawhney and Raman Bhalla, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation, Narinder Singh, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary to Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Hirdesh Kumar Singh, other senior officers and engineers accompanied Azad during the inspection tour.
