| Gujjars upbeat, hail Azad for reservation promise | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu, Aug 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars Front has hailed the announcement of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in which he has agreed to provide political reservation to the Scheduled Tribes of the State. The leaders of the front Shah Mohammad Chowdhary, Secretary General, Anwar Chowdhary, President of the Front and a Senior Congress leader Hamid Chowdhary while addressing the press conference also hailed the decisions taken in the 21st meeting of Gujjar Bakerwal Advisory Board held at Srinagar. All the Gujjar leaders have appreciated the efforts of Chief Minister for the upliftment of down trodden Gujjar Community. They have also hailed the Chief Minister of generous announcement in which he has agreed to sanction Rs. 50 lacs for Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust.
The front leaders have appealed National Conference, PDP, Panthers Party, PDF, CPI (M) and other political parties to extend their support to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in appointing Delimitation Commission in the State to delimit/increase and also to make reference for reservation of Assembly Seats in favour of Scheduled Tribes in the State and to increase the strength of existing Assembly seats from 87 to 125.
The Gujjar leaders further said that the Chief Minister has given assurance to the community that if other political parties support the Constitution of Delimitation Commission, the Bill in this regard can be introduced in the ensuing session of State Assembly commencing from 20th of August 2007 to provide reservation to Scheduled Tribes in the Assembly as this requires Constitutional Amendment with 2/3rd majority.
The Gujjar leaders have also hailed the decision of Chief Minister for enhancement of Annual funds from Rs. 8 lacs to Rs. 28 lacs for the promotion of Gojri language culture in the state.
