| Karra snubs VO | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER
Jammu, Aug 9: In an obvious snub to the anti-graft campaign, the Finance and Lal Minister Tariq Hamid Karra has objected to the State Vigilance Organisation's (SVO) request for reopening a case in which the chief minister had dropped charges against the accused officers.
"There should be some finality in the decision of the competent authority (Chief Minister)," said Karra.
The SVO had sought reconsideration of the cases involving some senior officials of the health ministry who were accused of corruption in purchases made for the department in 1999-2000.
The CM had dropped charges against the accused officials after an expert committee submitted a report which said that there was no prima facie case against them.
The SVO has launched a massive anti-corruption drive in the state.
The Minister's adverse observations on the working of SVO come just a day after chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad made a public statement on the issue.
Addressing a function in Jammu, Azad said the state government has got an overwhelming response from the people of Kashmir and it was becoming difficult for the vigilance organization and other agencies to handle the situation.
"When I raised the slogan against corruption, I anticipated poor response from Kashmir and overwhelming support from Jammu. However the flow of information from Kashmir is ten times higher than Jammu," he said.
