| Vehicles to go off more city roads | | | Jammu, Aug 10: With a view to check increasing vehicular pollution in city of temples, Government is contemplating to restrict the traffic on highly congested roads within the old city areas.
This was disclosed at a meeting of Urban Transport Environment Improvement Committee (UTEIC) chaired by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Mr. Sudanshu Pandey who is also the chairman of the committee.
The committee authorized to look into the environmental aspect of the city with regard to development has five members from various departments headed by the chairman.
The members include Inspector General of Police, Dr. S. P. Vaid, Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority Ashok Parmar, SSP Traffic Jammu Mr. S. A. Watali, Municipal Commissioner JMC V. K. Sharma and Development Commissioner Town Jammu .
Any construction activity within Jammu city needs a prior NOC from the committee which is issued by it after studying certain aspects including the impact on the environment.
It was disclosed in the meeting that highly congested roads would be identified within the Jammu city on which all traffic movement would be restricted. However, special provision of allowing Battery run Vehicles would be kept for the convenience of infirm, Children and Old age, the meeting decided.
The meeting fixed 30 day time for issuance of 'No Objection Certificates' from the day of submission of applications by the party. The Chairman directed all the members to ensure the time frame fixed for the issuance of the NOC.
Chairman also said that the committee would also seek the suggestions from the prominent citizens by convening meetings. He said three new parking slots would be setup along the road from Panjthirthi to Gumat so that people would avoid to park vehicles on the road sides.
