| JK freedom fighters meet President | | | New Delhi, Aug 10: The group of freedom fighters, which is here in the capital, met the President Mrs. Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan last evening. They also interacted with freedom fighters from other states who joined them for a reception thrown by the President to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Quit India movement.
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam besides about 300 freedom fighters drawn from across the country attended the function.
Greeting the group with pleasantries, Mrs. Patil enquired about the development activities in the state particularly in areas like education, health, poverty alleviation etc usually concerning women and children.
The group extended felicitations to Mrs. Patil on behalf of the people of the state on taking over as the President of the country.
The President later honoured the freedom fighters with commendations.
