| VHP wants president's rule in J&K | | | Jammu, Aug 10: Lambasting the Congress-led government in Jammu and Kashmir for its alleged failure to protect the rights of migrant labourers in the valley, the VHP today demanded imposition of President's rule in the state.
"The security situation in the state under the Congress-led government has reversed back to 1989-90 when Kashmiri Hindus were forced out of the valley under threat from militants.
"The only alternative now is to place the state under President's rule as all the elected governments since 1989 to date have miserably failed to arrest and eliminate the secessionist and fundamental elements," state VHP president Ramakant Dubay said.
For any programme of peace and development, elimination of terrorist and subversive activities is a must, he said.
"The year 1989 was the beginning of militancy in Kashmir valley backed by Pakistan from across the border and supported by internal fundamentalist Islamic elements.
"Now, these elements have again threatened to eliminate the non-Kashmiries if they do not quit the valley within a week's time," Dubey, who led an anti-government demonstration over the issue, said.
