| Panthers question discrimination against Jammu migrants | | | Jammu, Aug 10: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today demanded implementation of the Supreme Court's order for providing relief to the migrants of Talwara camp of Reasi district of Jammu division, at par with Kashmiri migrants.
The Supreme Court in July last year had directed the Relief Commissioner of the state government to provide relief to the Talwara camp migrants as per their entitlement, but the government flouted these directions causing miseries to the migrants, the JKNPP Chairman Bhim Singh said.
He said from March 2003 to March 2004, the government had paid relief to only 438 families of Talwara migrants, but later stopped even the that.
He said the apathy of the government has added to the miseries of the migrants whose lands have also been occupied either by militants or anti-social elements in their native villages.
JKNPP chief also demanded an inquiry by a High Court judge in the recent incident in which the police lathichrged the Talwara migrants when they were agitating against the government to provide them relief.
He also asked the government to take action against the police officials involved in the lathicharge.
