| JeM planned to strike in Jammu, other parts of country: confesses Zaffar | | ‘Admits hand in attack on Dy SP Manhas’ | | ET Follow up Jammu | Aug 12 Following sustained interrogation of Zaffar Iqbal, who was arrested in an injured condition at Janipur area here at wee hours yesterday during an encounter leading to the gunning down of a dreaded Pakistani militant and Divisional Commander of JeM outfit, has confessed that the outfit was running well knit net work in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country besides admitting the outfit’s hand in the brutal attack on Dy SP Mendhar Yugual Manhas on May 23 last. Sources said today that during interrogation the arrested militant told police about their network in Poonch, Jammu, Srinagar and other parts of India and its plans to attack Jammu in a big way. Sources said Zaffar Iqbal was questioned in medical college hospital after his preliminary treatment during which he revealed that he was in constant touch with Jaish commanders in Pakistan through internet and was daily making contacts with them to receive future plans. Sources said during interrogation he told police that he was also involved along with two more militants of same outfit in the attack on DSP Mendhar some months back and after the attack they were hiding in the jungle area of Poonch and later they left Poonch and after spending some days in their special hideout they came to Janipura area in Jammu where they were living in a rented house. Sources said that Iqbal admitted that DSP Manhas was attacked following his anti militancy activities in the area and after four days planning the outfit attacked him leaving him in pool of blood. Sources said police has collected the record of incoming and outgoing calls of Airtel and BSNL phones that were recovered from the militants. During examination of the cell phones, police found out that they (militants) used the mobile phones for their links and also for contacting some persons daily in Mendhar and Poonch and three days back they had also talked to the commander of the outfit, who is active in the Poonch district and police has also traced some landline numbers of Poonch and Jammu and some mobile phones from the phone records. Sources said police was trying to collect all phone records and also sought assistance of some of the mobile companies for getting details of the calls made and received. He is also reported to have given some more names to the police during interrogation who have been helping the outfit in its nefarious designs by giving ‘hawala’ money and weapons. The arrests of those named by the arrested militant are not ruled out; the sources said that the police after getting more inputs are likely to act against those who have been harboring the militants. It is worthwhile to mention here that after the disclosures made by the arrested Zaffar Iqbal, the Police have also arrested a Physical Education Teacher (PeT) Master Mohammed Javed and his brother Asif Khan sons of Abdul Aziz Khan resident of Chak Banola, Mendhar, both of whom were working for the JeM outfit and had smuggled more weapons and explosives to Janipur for executing a major task in Jammu in the month of September. Sources claimed that during interrogation he told police that his outfit was planning to attack some vital places in Jammu city including residential houses of some VIP’s next month and achieve this objective they had collected weapons and other ammunition. Capturing of a militant alive during an encounter has proved a moral booster for the police which is expecting to get some vital clues about the militant net work operating in the state and their hideouts.. It may be recalled that joint team of Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi Police eliminated a dreaded militant and divisional commander of the JeM in a fierce encounter at Janipur during wee hours yesterday. The slain militant identified as Saifullah Qari a Pakistani national was also the mastermind behind 2005 attack on Ram temple at Ayodhya.
