| Corporators express gratitude for enhancing honorarium | | | JAMMU, AUGUST 12 Describing Corporators as finest example of self-rule, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad linked their democratic position as foremost spokespersons of their respective areas and vanguard leaders to project the demands and aspirations of people for development. He said in a democratic and decentralization system of governance the best kind of self-rule is to assure people to choose even their councilors in a free and fair election process. Chief Minister was addressing Corporators here Saturday at a meeting convened by them to convey gratitude to Mr. Azad for his keen interest to strengthen the basic democratic institutions in the state. They also thanked the Chief Minister for enhancing the honorarium of Corporators and Councilors. Assuring the Corporators of maximum possible support to enable them to start development works in their areas, Chief Minister asked them to accord priority to public demands and accelerate developmental works accordingly. Promising them liberal funding for undertaking development works, Chief Minister said that best way to project themselves as promising future leaders was in fulfilling the promises of development they made to the public at the time of their elections. Interacting with the Corporators, Chief Minister advised them to practically work upon various public needs in their areas and implement these works in right earnest, focusing special attention to the utility and quality aspects. Giving thrust on upgrading and promoting tourism in the state, the Chief Minister said that for the first time since Independence tourism has been accorded due recognition in Jammu, every district has least one Tourism Development Authority. Besides tourism circuits have been created to make Jammu Hub of tourism, he added. Regarding beautification of busiest commercial street, Raghunath Bazaar, the Chief Minister said that a project estimated at Rs.1.40 crore is being expended on various development works in the area. He said that Dogra art and culture being a historic tresure too needs to be preserved and developed in right earnest too attract foresign and domestic tourists. He said that the rich culture and traditions of Dogra Art could well be showcased in a nascent manner. On the schemes to woo tourists and prolong their stay in the city of temples, particularly in wake of the chugging of train of train to Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishnodeviji, the Chief Minister said that many tourism promotion schemes are being implemented in the winter capital, adding that the glare and attractive patina of these would be visible to the people soon. |
