I-Day fervor still in air across region

Jammu, Aug 16: A day after the Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm, fervor and gaiety across the state, reports of more celebrations, official functions and cultural programs from different places continue to pour in.
Here are highlights of some important functions from different parts of the region:

POONCH
Administration hosts ‘At Home’
District Development Poonch S. Jasbir Singh Pachnanda arranged At Home in the honour of district administration and prominent citizens at community hall Poonch where the Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The artists of Information Department and Sarswati Sangeet Kala Kandra Poonch presented a scintillating cultural programme which was highly appreciated by the audience.
SURANKOTE
Patriotic fervor marks I-Day
At tehsil headquarter Surankote in district Poonch, Tehsildar Mr. Mohd. Razaq Choudhary unfurled the national flag and took salute on march-past by the contingents drawn from JKP, schools and academies.
Reports revealed that after 17 years of militancy in this tehsil, a huge number of citizens from all walks of life witnessed the programme. The school children also presented an impressive cultural programme. S. S. Sadem School remains top in participating each item of parade and cultural programme which was appreciated by the public at large.
While addressing the function, Tehsildar Surankote appealed the public to cooperate with the administration in maintaining peace and tranquility so that the development activities taken in hand are completed at an earliest. He further said that the administration is at the back and call of public to resolve their problem round the clock. Mr. Choudhary also hosted At Home in the evening for citizens and tehsil administration.
As a part of Independence Day celebration, a function was also held at Samba where General Secretary, Pradesh Congress Committee Mr. Vinod Mishra unfurled the tricolor at main bazaar.
The students of various schools presented patriotic songs on the occasion.
President, J&K Dharmarth Trust Th. Diwakar Singh also hoisted the national flag at central office building of J&K Dharmarth Trust Shalamar Road, Shri Raghunath Pathshalla, Raghunath Mandir, Jammu and Shri Ranbir Sanskrit Maha Vidyala Birpur.
Secretary Dharmarth Trust Ms Vijay Gandotra, other senior officers of the Trust, teachers and students of the schools were present at the functions. National songs were also sung and sweets were distributed.
Independence Day function was celebrated by the staff and students of Divine Light Public School, Domana where Managing Director Mr. Himat Singh Kala unfurled the national flag.


UDHAMPUR
Babu Singh attends At Home
The Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, Babu Singh has urged upon the people to put in their concerted and coordinated efforts in strengthening the roots of democratic set up of the country by giving a united fight against illiteracy, poverty and social evils to fulfill the dream of frontline leaders of freedom struggle who laid down their precious lives for the sake of freedom.
The Minister was speaking as a chief guest at an ‘At Home’ hosted by the district administration as a part of Independence Day celebrations held at Shri Goverdhan Palace, Udhampur last evening.
The DDC, Udhampur, O.P. Kalandria, SSP, Udhampur, P.R. Manhas, ADDC K.A. Bhat, Addl. DC J.L. Sharma, President Congress (Urban), Brij Mohan Sharma, Addl.S.P. Anil Magotra, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), Chief Planning Officer, district heads of various departments and prominent persons affiliated with different political parties, commerce and trade were present on the occasion.
Ghazal recital by renowned artist of Information Department, Sham Sajan titled “ Bhari Duniya Mein Kaya Nahin Milta, Magar Aap Sa Nahin Milta”, popular number “ Yahan Dal Dal Par Sone Ki Chirya Karti Hei Basera, Woh Bharat Desh Hei Mera” and dance item presented by Navrang Group, Udhampur got loud applause of the jam-packed audience with repeated cheers. Other Artists who participated in patriotic songs presentation included Priyanka Langeh, Naveen Punjabi, Anjana Khajuria, Tabla by Vijay Anand, Synthsizer player Kuleep Sapru, flute by Amit Sandotra, Dholak by Krishan Lal.
A renowned state level comparerVijay Atri conducted the proceedings of the programme effectively which also got wide appreciation of the public.
Earlier, the Minister released a Punjabi devotional song Audio Video Compact Disc entitled “Chani Maa Dei Dhol Bajda”. The CD contains eight devotional songs sung by Mr. Naveen Punjabi.
KATHUA
Sham-e-Gazal enthralls audience
As part of Independence Day celebrations, a scintillating cultural bonanza was organized to mark “At Home” at District Police Lines, Kathua hoisted by District Development Commissioner Kathua ,Sarita Chauhan in the evening.
District Development Commissioner, Kathua Sarita Chauhan was the chief guest on the occasion.
SSP Kathua, J.P.Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Laj Ram, AC Revenue Mr. S.K. Kapoor, President Municipal Council Kathua, other councilors from Lakhanpur and Nagri Parole, District Officers and prominent citizens and cultural personalities were present on the occasion.
The artists from Information Department and local artists presented a composite cultural programme based on patriotic themes which left the audience spell bound.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC congratulated the people on the eve of Independence Day and thanked the artists for making the eve colorful with their songs, dance and gazals. She also recalled the sacrifices of great heroes of freedom struggle and said that let us pledge today to safe guard our hard won independence and take our country to the new heights by contributing in its social, intellectual, economical and cultural development Mrs. Chauhan also appreciated the efforts of Information and other coordinating departments for making the programme a grand success.
The artist Khajoor Singh and party, Kapil Thappa, O.P. Sambyal, Neelam Sambyal, Rakesh Sambyal, Om Paul, Madhu, Jitender Khajuria, Divya Jasrotia, Shilpa Padha, Ruhee Sumbria, Rajesh Kohli, Bunty, Thomas, Pankaj Pardhan, Dilsher Singh and party, Randhir Singh and party, Rakesh Kumar, Shakti Bachan, Ajay Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Kamal Kumar, and many others enthralled the audiences with their cultural items. Noted comparer S.D. Singh compared the whole programme and Rakesh Lovely was the music director.
