| JKNDF, a KP’s political front, on anvil | | ‘Front to represent entire community; fight for its rights’: Dewani | | Jammu Aug -16- To fight for the rights of Kashmiri Pandits, their safe, respectable return and proper rehabilitation in Kashmir Valley, ensuring passage of KP Shrine Bill apart from their political reservation, the first ever political Front for the KP’s, namely ‘Jammu and Kashmir National Political Front’ is on the anvil for which the membership drive across the country has been launched.. Briefing newsmen about the broad contours of the proposed political front, A K Dewani, who is one of the members of the core group set up for the purpose, said here today the Front has set an enrolment target of over 50, 000 members both within and outside the country and so far 4984 members have been enrolled.. He said in Jammu and Kashmir where winds of change on the political front dictate the terms of ‘separatist politics of independence to self- rule’, Kashmiri Pandits are devoid of a political ideology. In this backdrop of high-tech political activity, he said, KPs have decided to set up a political party with a mindset, policy and stake holding on multifarious fronts under the name and style of Jammu and Kashmir National Democratic Front. ‘Notwithstanding some feeble voices of decent,’ there has been overwhelming response from KPs, now living in exile for the last 18 years, to join this first ever political party, he said. For formulation of the Front, a core up consisting R K Mattoo from Banglore, P L Razdan from Delhi, A K Dewani, Vinod Pandit, Sanjay Kumar and Bharti from Jammu, have already been constituted, he said, adding that the group has held a series of meetings with the community members in Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar, Delhi, Faridabad, Gaziabad. Amballa and Bangalore. More such meetings are proposed to be held in other parts of the country, he added. Dewani said the objective of the whole exercise is to setup a well found political outfit with its leadership elected through a democratic process in an open and transparent manner. The attempt is that the leadership should emerge and is no longer imposed on the community, he said and made it amply clear that the ‘party does not belong to any group or organization but to the whole community’. The attempt is to facilitate development of second line leadership, bringing forward the youth of the community to handle its problems on various fronts, he added. Dewani further said that the proposed JKNDF will reflect the mainstream voice of KPs with an inclusive agenda and the inputs so far gathered suggest that it is high time that such a party is launched with people having clear and transparent track record at the helm. He said the draft constitution, which is nearing completion, will be circulated to elicit opinion of the community members adding that after completion of all the formalities, the party would be registered with the Election Commission of India. Making a fervent appeal to the community members to enroll each and every member of their family with the JKNDF, Dewani expressed the hope that the Front would go a long way to give credibility to the political existence of the community and would also help overcome problems caused by its fragmented leadership. Among others present at the press conference were Vinod Pandit, Ramesh Koul, M K Koul, D N Kissu, Vijay Chikan, P N Raina, Karan Choudhary, Sanjay Dhar, Ramjee Koul, Surinder Ambardar and R K Sehgal.
