| East MLA reviews construction works | | |
Jammu, Aug 17: MLA East Mr Yogesh Sawhney convened a high level meeting to review the progress of various civil works, including drainage, sewerage, roads, drinking water, electricity etc in his constituency at District Development Commissioner's office here today.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Jammu Mr Narinder Singh, District Development Commissioner Jammu Mr Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Director ERA Mr B D Bhagat, Vice Chancellor JDA Mr Ashok Parmar, SE of R&B, PDD and PHE departments and representatives of different departments.
In the meeting, it was informed that some of the street lights on the main routes from Chief Minister residence, Gummat via Rivierra Hotel, Dogra Chowk, Vinayak Bazar, Bus Stand, Indira Chowk, Shalamar, New Secretariat, Kacchi Chowani, Police lines and Panjtirthi need immediate repair. Mr Sawhney said that due to the start of festival season and darbar move thereafter the damaged and nonfunctional streetlights should be repaired and made functional at the earliest.
Expressing satisfaction that in the entire old city work of electronic metering has been completed upto 75 percent, he directed the engineers to augment new transformer stations so that electricity can be provided round the clock to consumers. He further elaborated that computerized billing has also been started by the department to provide prompt and transparent service to consumers.
The meeting was informed that to mitigate the shortage of drinking water supply under ERA out of 49 tube wells, construction work on 5 tubes wells have been completed and work is apace on boring 17 tube wells. Similarly construction work on 40 over head tanks is expected to be taken up in the month of December 2007. These projects are in pipeline and tendering process.
It was said that apart from this 39 damages tubewells will be repaired by ERA at a cost of Rs.1.50 lakh to Rs.2 lakh per tube well. Speaking on the occasion, ERA representatives informed that their organization will be spending Rs.60 crore on rising main and Rs.138 crore on improving the distribution network of PHE.
Under UAED sector it was informed that work on realignment of nallah from Shaheedi Chowk to DPS shall be taken up shortly. Along with this Rs.1.93 crore plan for beautification of old city is also being implemented out of whichRs.16 lakh have been released to R&B department under the state sector plan. Mr Sawhney directed the SE R&B to widen the road near Kacchi Chowani by 753 sq feet.
During the meeting MLA Jammu East directed the officers of education department to submit a report about the clubbing of various government schools in different location of city. He asked them to carryout immediate repair and renovation works in various school buildings so that the students don't face any inconvenience.
