Tarigami: assess paddy blast loss

Srinagar Aug 17: State Secretary CPI(M) and MLA Kulgam Mr. M. Y. Tarigami today urged upon the government to depute a team of officers from of Agriculture and Revenue Departments to assess the loss of paddy crop in different areas of the district Kupwara. He said that damage caused to paddy crops due to recent eruption of paddy blast needs to be controlled by various scientific methods and at the same time the farmers who suffered the loss would be provided compensation by the government.

Tarigami said that reportedly 50 percent of the crop has got damaged in the district and the rest needs to be secured from further spread of the disease.

In this connection Tarigami directed SKUST and Agricultural experts to leave no stone unturned in spraying patricides, insecticides and adopt other required measures for the purpose.

However Tarigami impressed upon the concerned scientists and research scholars of agriculture to provide advance awareness and precautionary measures to save the paddy and other crops of valley from these disease, adding that the 80 percent population of the state depends on agriculture.
