| Development students interest towards Science subject, Prof Yashpaul | | | Jammu, August 17- There is a declining trend amongst the student community to opt for pure Science courses and if this trend is not arrested right now the research institutes would stagnate which would not be good augury for any developing country. This was revealed by Prof Dr.Yashpaul former Chairman UGC and a scientist of repute at a lecture organized under the aegis of Tiger Division. Principals, Science teachers and students of science stream of all army schools of Jammu region attended the lecture. Prof Yashpal said since times immemorial, the contribution of scientists of India in the field of science and technology has been immense. If Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, Charaka and Leelavati contributed their mite in the olden days, Dr CV Raman, Ramanujam, Dr Hargobind Khurana did the country proud with their contribution before and after independence. The country had a missile expert, Dr APJ Kalam as the President. However there is a declining trend amongst the student community to opt for pure science courses. There is a clamor for finance, technical and management courses, he observed.. ‘If this trend is not arrested now, the research institutes will stagnate, which is not a good augury for any developing country’ he said. Prof Yashpal spoke about the latest developments in science, the career options available and the advantages of pursuing scientific research work. The eminent scientist cum educationist advised the teachers about the importance of practical demonstrations and ways and means of generating interest in teaching of science to young children. Professor Sharma has been on the advisory committee of Doordarshan for all the science related programs. He enthusiastically interacted with the children and answered all their queries. Major General Sanjeev Loomba, GOC, Tiger Division and also the Patron of all Army Schools profusely thanked Professor Prof Yashpal for sparing his valuable time to motivate and interact with student community and teaching fraternity.
