| Angry residents spill over roads as taps still run dry | | |
Jammu, August 17: Street protests to highlight scarcity of water and electricity have become thing of the past. On Friday one unidentified youth tired to hang himself with a piece of cloth at the busy Rehari crossing while irate residents from several other adjoining localities came out on the streets to protest against the scarcity of water in their area.The commotion resulted in traffic jam on the busy road for several hours aftecting Amarnath yatra.
The dharna in the middle of the road was lifted by local residents after local police cops intervened and shifted them from the area. It may be mentioned that to highlight scarcity of water people from Jammu west constitunency had been organising street protests for past several days but in vain.
Residents of several other housing colonies including Sharika Vihar in Roop Nagar, Janipur, New Plot, Durga Nagar, Subash Nagar,Rajpura have also threatened to come on the streets if they failed to get regular supply of water. Residents complained that for past several days they were not getting regular supply of water and in some areas the residents were getting water supply after a gap of more than 7 days making it difficult for them to sustain routine activities in the absence of water. The state govt authorities, according to residents have failed to resolve the crisis and were wasting huge sums of money on maintenance and replacing water pipes without providing water.
