Lovelorn couple gets security with court's blessing

Jammu, Aug 17: Chased by the relatives, an insecure lovelorn couple petition before the judiciary for protection of their relation, which indeed came to their rescue.

One Dr Majid Jahangir locked in love with Syeda Samreena and married at their own with the mutual will, approached the Jammu and Kashmir High Court seeking direction for security of their life. The Court hearing the case directed the government advocate that he should convey to the Director General of Police that the couple should be provided adequate security by 1 PM today.

Justice Virender Singh in a habeas corpus petition filed by Dr Jehangir after hearing Sunil Sethi appearing for the petitioner, Additional Advocate General BS Salathia appearing for the state respondents and Adv Vipin Gandotra appearing for the private respondent, directed DGP to take cognizance of the matter and directed concerned quarter for providing adequate security to the couple.

In the habeas corpus petition it was submitted that petitioner had got married to Syed Samreena, the father of the girl was however against this marriage was continuously creating hurdle in the affairs of the petitioner's and private respondent. Ultimately private respondent was physically lifted on August 9, 2007 from the house of the petitioner. Adv Sunil Sethi submitted that the petitioner after August 9, 2007 got a telephonic call from Samreena that her father was planning to marry her somewhere else against her wishes. Now she has been able to come out of the illegal custody of her father and has present before this Court through her counsel Vipin Gandotra and the petitioner is also present in the Court.

Syed Samreena has made a statement before the Court without oath that in fact she was physically lifted by her father, but some how she could manage to come out of the house, she further stated that her father is planning to marry her to someone else against her wishes, whereas she wants to stay with petitioner Dr. Majid Jehangir as husband and wife. She further stated that she also apprehends danger at the hands of her father as he is openly threats to her and her husband (petitioner). She further stated that her father had forcefully got her signatures on certain blank papers which might be used for any ulterior motives. Counsel for the petitioner prayed for issuance directions to the police for providing adequate security to the petitioner and Syed Samreena.

Justice Virender Singh after hearing the counsels for the parties disposed of the petition and observed that the petitioner and private respondent need immediate protection by this Court. Respondent DGP is requested to take cognizance of the matter and direct the concerned quarter for providing adequate security to Majid Jehangir and Syed Samreen without any delay.
