| Banihal pays tributes to Fakhr-e-Kohistan | | | Jammu, August 18 - Noted social activist from Banihal Farooq Assad Mir, alongwith thousands of his supporters, joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at a function at Banihal yesterday. PDP Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and senior party leader Abdul Aziz Zargar were present on the occasion.
The function was organized by Farooq Assad Mir to commemorate the death anniversary of his father and political stalwart of the area Late Assadullah Mir. A former minister and Speaker of the State legislative assembly Assadullah Mir alias Fakhr-e-Kohistan is remembered for his contribution towards political, social and economic emancipation of his people. His wife Hajra Begum was the first woman legislator of the State. Farooq Mir, on his return from the US recently, decided to carry forward the mission of his late father and started working among his people. He has been working tirelessly for the upliftment of the people in remotest corners of Banihal, before making a plunge into the active politics. Speaking at yesterday's function, Mir said he had decided to join PDP as it was the only party struggling for the people's rights and has become a representative voice of the masses. He pledged his support to the party and assured the people of his area that he would accomplish the mission of his father. National Conference Block President Qaiser Hameed alongwith his supporters also joined PDP on this occasion. Rich tributes were paid to late Assadullah Mir for his contribution to the development of the area by the speakers on this occasion.
