| Operation Sadbhawana extended to North-east | | | Jammu | Aug 18 The Indian army which considers a solemn duty to ameliorate the suffering of the people with the co-operation of the civil administration especially in far-flung areas of the state launched operation Sadbhavana in 1998 in the state. Keeping its success in view the scheme has been extended in the North-east also. The operation has made a dramatic and visible impact and has successfully met the aspirations of the people towards peace and prosperity. The concept of the operation is that army acts as a facilitator and catalyst for development, the civic activities and integrated seamlessly with the state administration and community development plans, respect for the local religion, culture traditions of the area is ensured, maximum utilization of local labour craftsmen and material and women and children are given special attention. The Modalities for selection of the projects is a request for projects from village panchayats and district administration are vetted at various levels and short listed. While Prioritizing, project which benefit larger sections of the community, women and children are listed higher in priority. Funds for the projects are allotted by the central government.
