Earthen pot makers an honest community

Srinagar August 19: Potters, though economically weak, yet industrious and honest community are integral part of the society and have right to live with honour and dignity, said the minister for agriculture Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar while addressing the members of Noorabad Kumar Welfare Association at Kulgam today.

Mr. Zargar said that formation of the potters union was the need of the hour and hoped that it will prove effective and powerful platform in projecting the demands of the community. He said that this union has become their voice and appealed to the participants to work for strengthening it. Describing the community as one of the primitive professionalists, he said potters have their own history and have played a vital role in the state politics

Mr. Zargar said that peace is the primary requirement of development and PDP always worked to bring peace and normalcy in the state. He said peace in the state and prosperity of the people is the objective of the PDP, adding that it will not keep any stone unturned till it is accomplished.

Referring to the demands, put forth by the union, the minister assured that all the demands would be meted out in a phased manner. Regarding the demand of provision of BPL ration cards, the minister asked the president of the union to prepare and furnish a list of deserving families, so that matter could be taken up with the concerned ministry. Shelter sheds, free admission in professional and educational institutes, bank loans and giving social cast status to the Kumar community were among other major demands of the union.

The president and the members of the union also spoke on the occasion. The president, Noorabad Kumar Welfare Association, Mr. Abdul Razaq Kumar said that Kumar community has always been ignored in every sphere of life. He said that this community has great expectations with the minister and hoped that all their demands would be looked into seriously. Giving the details of the community, Mr. Razaq said that Kumar community is spread in 20 villages of Noorabad constituency with 7000 souls, but living in miserable conditions.
