| Saboteurs won’t be allowed to disrupt pro-people initiatives: Mehbooba | | | Awantipora (Pulwama), August 19: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti today said her party's vision of a politically stable and economically viable Jammu & Kashmir could be realized only when the State's historic and traditional status in the South Asian region gets fully revived. "Free movement of people and goods across all the traditional cross-LoC routes in all parts of the State could become the stepping stone towards forging of a new economic alliance in the region," she said. Addressing a day-long convention of PDP workers here today, Mehbooba said the PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's vision of a prosperous and economically strong Jammu & Kashmir will not bear fruit, unless, the road links across the border are fully revived. "Our party wanted the revival of these traditional road links to broaden the State's economic space and end its decades-long isolation," she said and added that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is working on a larger canvass to create conditions feasible for the peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue in the SAARC paradigm. Regarding reduction of troops Mehbooba said that those who are opposing this proposal have always followed the paranoiac mindset of the security experts and they never really care about the genuine aspirations of the masses. "But I am sure the political will would prevail this time and the decision on troop cut and revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) would be taken keeping in view the positive signals emanating from the State," she said and added that the army's role has to be now necessarily replaced by complete restoration of civil authority. She said some elements with vested interests opposing the reduction of troops in the name of security threat tried to sabotage the opening of Srinagar-Muzzaffarabad road at the last moment by setting TRC ablaze but it was the boldness of PDP's political leadership which saw the opening of this road through thus fulfilling the long pending demand of the people. Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Mir Zahoor and Bukhari, legislators also spoke on the occasion .
