| SC notice to state for contempt | | | Jammu, August 20 The Supreme Court has issued a notice, returnable in four weeks, to Jammu and Kashmir Government, through the relief commissioner, on a contempt petition field on behalf of Panthers Party. The Division Bench of the apex court issued the notice after the Panthers Party Chief,Prof. Bhim Singh,field a petition accusing the state Government of defying the Supreme court’s order,issued on July 12,2006 regarding the quantum of relief that was to be provided to the Jammu migrants. The petition contended that the state and the central Governments had not implemented the supreme court order causing starvation among 11,000 migrants from Doda,Rajouri,Pooch and Udhampur.Prof. Bhim Singh had submitted that instead of implementing the court order the state Government had let loose a reign of terror on the migrants on August 7,2007. In the petition the Panthers Party supreme said that at Katra these migrants were beaten in the police lathicharge.He also apprised the apex court of the police assault on the Party’s general secretary,Ms Anita Thakur,a journalist,P.K.Gaju,and the advocate Mr H.C.Jalmeria.Under the court direction affidavit of Jalmeria was being filed as his leg had been broken in the police lathicharge.Prof. Bhim Singh said that the supreme court notice to the state Government vindicated the genuine and just demands of migrants.
