| Ex-Ministers use two Bungalows ‘illegally’ | | Great loss to state exchequer | | ** Some party leaders convert government residential houses into party offices** GOVIND CHOUHAN JAMMU AUG 20 While some senior Ministers and other top bureaucrats have been denied government accommodation, a former Minister was holding the possession of a departmental guest house apart from a government bungalow in Jammu city while several others have turned government allotted bungalows into party offices. . According to sources former Minister for Power was allotted a PDD guest house at Jammu for residential purposes which he even retained illegally even after he resigned as a Minister. On his election as MLC, he was again allotted a government bungalow without handing over the possession of the PDD guest house. Despite government’s clear cut instruction asking him to vacate the PDD guest house, the most powerful MLC has not obliged the government by vacating the premises thereby holding the possession of the guest house illegally. Sources said that the present Power Minister Rigzin Zora has also written to the government that the former minister has illegally occupied the departmental guest house when as MLC he has already been allotted a government bungalow in the city itself. Sources said government pay electricity bill and water bill of the bungalow, besides the security at both the places thus causing a great burden on the state exchequer. This is not a single case of its kind. One of the leaders has set up his party office in the residential accommodation allotted to him as MLC. The sources said the said leader had written to the government for allotment of government accommodation to him for residential purposes. Upon allotting the bungalow at Gandhi Nagar the said leader instead of using it for residential purposes shifted his party office to the bungalow. There are few leaders also who have illegally occupied the government accommodation to which they are not entitled to. The sources said that the government had hired a private house at Shastri Nagar to accommodate the former Health Minister which is still in her possession despite being out of the Ministry. The sources claimed that in spite of repeated notices the former minister has not vacated the bungalow in the posh colony for which the government was paying huge rent. These are just few cases and on proper verification the number may be much more thus causing undue loss to the state exchequer. The people’s circles question is the rule for the petty and poor people and those who enjoy the political patronage continue to rule the roost at the cost of the general public. If there is government worth the name, it should act swiftly and bring the culprits to book and save the misuse of the state exchequer.
