| ST status to Paharies: Poonch, Rajouri observe bandh | | | Early Times Reporter In support of the demand for Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari people of J&K state,a complete peaceful bandh was observed in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri today. The call for Bandh was given by Pahari Welfare Forum J&K and other organizations including Beopar/Mandal, Transport Union, Bar Association, Student organizations and various political organizations. All the shops and business establishment remain closed. No vehicular traffic plied on the roads while protest demonstrations were held at district headquarters. Educational Institutions and Govt. Offices witnessed thin attendance. In Poonch a massive protest demonstration was held at Parade Ground where several Pahari peoples addressed the gathering. Speaker urged the centre govt. to grant scheduled tribes status to the pahari people of J&K as they form an ethnic group of people with common culture and language. They also warned that if their demand is not conceded to they would be forced to intensity the stir. Bandh was also observed in Mandi, Surankote, Sawjian, Loran,Mendhar, Balakote, Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kalakote, Budhal, Than Mandi and Tehsils of Uri, Karnahadn Tangdhar. In Rajouri a massive possession was taken out in the bazaars of the town. The bandh call was given by Lokesh Kumar Sharma President Pahari Welfare Forum J&K. The Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Shakeel Azad, Sabar Hussain Zeengar, Qalab Abas, Raja Mohd Abas Khan Advocate, Mohd Maroof Khan Advocate, Ravinder Kumar Bitta, Nazir Mughal, Moulvi Maneer Hussain Jafari, Chaman Lal Advocate, Moulana Sanullah, Azeem Ali Shah, Majid Khan, Tariq Manhas, Hameed Manhas, Shahbaz Khan and Aslam Mirza.
