| Mystery shrouds cop's death | | >>Police say accidental fire; Family allege murder | | Jammu, Aug 21 (NAK): A constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police died under mysterious circumstances, while on guard duty, at a police post in Hiranagar area of Jammu, late on Monday night. Sources said that the constable Pupinder Singh posted at Kotekanu police post in Hira Nagar received bullet shot and died on the spot. Giving details sources told News Agency of Kashmir that Singh was posted on guard duty at the police post, late last night when his colleagues heard a bullet shot. "When they reached the spot they noticed the constable lying in poll of blood", source said. The cop was rushed to nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police said that it was a case of accidental fire but the matter was being investigated. Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Border Sajad Nabi told that preliminary investigations conducted so far suggested that the constable has died due to accidental fire from his own service weapon. However, we have started an investigation to reveal the fact, he said adding, the body was handed over to the family after postmortem today. Contrary to the police claims, the family members and relatives of the deceased cop alleged that Singh has been killed by his colleagues. "The matter should be investigated by an independent investigation agency as we have no faith on police investigation", one of the family members of the deceased cop said. (NAK)
