killed in separate militancy related incidents Kashmir while insurgents made an unsuccessful bid to target a police station in Baramulla district yesterday. Elsewhere two Over ground workers of militants were apprehended.
Slain militants have been identified as Ab Hai Rather alias Sad Bhai code Khubab resident of Aliyal Pora Shopian another militant has beenntified as Shiraj Ahmed alias Umair resident of Tulran ImamSahib. Both of the militants were involved in many militantactivities.
Ab Hai alias Khubab was a high profile militant who was involved in the Shalimar Bagh Bus blast on July 29, 2007 in which seven people including five Gujaratis were killed
Official Sources told that in a day-long gun battle with security forces at Hablipora illage in Shopian district, two LeT militants were gunned down.
Giving details the sources said that the encounter broke out on Monday morning when a joint operation by police and Rashtriya Rifles was launched in the village following information about presence of militants.
As the security cops tightened the cordon, militants in response opened indiscriminate fire two militants of LeT outfit were killed, sources said. Sources further said that in another incident, some militants shot at farmer at Bonigam-Haripora village in Shopian district and injured him. The injured identified as Zahoor Ahmad Mir was soon admitted in hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
In another incident, Militants triggered a grenade towards Pattan police station in Baramulla district in the early hours but it exploded in the mid-air without causing any damage to it.
Meanwhile, security forces arrested two over ground workers of militants from Ganderbal district. Defence spokes man told KMT that cops of Rashtriya Rifles along with police apprehended an individual traveling in a vehicle at Safapur-Manasbal in Ganderbal District. The individual along with vehicle was handed over to police.
In yet another operation another person was apprehended by Rashriya rifles in Sumbal area of Ganderbal District, the person according to defence spokesman was acting as a guide and was providing logistic support to militants.
