State likely to go for Panchayat elections soon

Srinagar, August 21: Jammu and Kashmir Government is likely to hold
much awaited Panchayat Elctions in recent future.This was stated by minister for Rural Development, Jugal Kishore wile replying a question raised by Lal Mohammad Sabir in Legislative Council during question hour.
Minister said that the election to the Pnachayats delayed because of the fresh delimitation of Panchayat Halqas and re-organization of Panch halqas. He said since the process of delimitation has already been completed, government could any time announce the elections to the grass root level institutions.
Minister said that the delimitation was held to make the halqas geographically viable and administratively viable. He said that besides the delimitation the state has also considered the reservation of halqas for ST and SC.
In reply to another question by R.S. Chib, the Minister said that government has set up a committee headed by former Chief Secretary S.S. Boleria to examine the demands of new administrative units.
He said for examining the inter-alia the demand for creation of new blocks and reorganization of existing blocks after laying down different norms and parameters.
He said that all the demands received by the Department for creation of new blocks including Suchetgarh have been placed before the committee. He said that once the delimitation is completed further consideration to the demands for additional blocks would be looked into.
In reply to yet another question by Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, the Minister for Rural Development said that under PM's Reconstruction Plan, as many as 119 villages are being developed as model villages in the state with financial package of Rs. 142.80 crores. Besides, three model villages are also being developed under State Plan.
He said the identification of these villages was done in consultation with the concerned public representatives. He said an amount of Rs. 1.20 crore has been earmarked for development of each model village. The main activities identified for the model villages
include community facility centre, rural information centre, development of playing ground, children park, solar lights, shop line,lanes/drains, sanitary points, entry gate and other link roads, crossings, culvert ghats, he said.
The supplementaries were raised by Abdul Gani Vakil, Nasarullah, B A Naiz and Sakina Itoo.
