Kashmir highway through, Ladakh, Mughal road remain closed
3/14/2016 10:20:06 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Mar 14: The national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for light vehicles, while heavy vehicles will ply from Jammu to Srinagar today despite intermittent rain, triggering landslides and shooting stones.
However, the national highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic Mughal road besides Bandipora-Gurez road remained closed since December last year.
A traffic police official said that despite intermittent rain during the past 24 hours, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through.
However, traffic on the highway was disrupted for several hours last evening due to landslides. He said landslides and shooting stones are occurring at some places, particularly at Penthal, Ramsu, Magarkote and Shree Bibi.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway is putting sophisticated machine and men to work to clear landslides and stones from the road immediately. However, to avoid traffic jam or accident, it was decided that only light vehicles will ply from both sides today, he said.
Heavy vehicles, including those carrying essentials, will ply from Jammu to Srinagar. The national highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir remained closed since December last year due to accumulation of snow.
The snow clearance operation by BRO was going on a war footing to put through the highway. Snow clearance operation has almost been completed on Zojila, most troubled part on the national highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir
