| 864 commercial child labour detected | | DDC stresses for early completion of domestic child labour survey | | UDHAMPUR, AUG-22, 2007:-The District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. O.P. Kalandria has called upon the agencies including Social Workers involved in conducting survey of Child Labour in commercial as well as domestic establishments to work with zeal and dedication in identifying the children between the age of 6 to 14 years working in such establishments. 864 such children working in commercial establishment have already been identified in the district including 514 alone in Udhampur. The DDC further called for pursuing the parents and employers so that they are ready to send their wards to special schools being set up under National Child Labour Development Project (NCLP) or otherwise take action as warranted under rules against such defaulting employers as employing the children between 6 to 14 years age was criminal offence which includes fine upto Rs.20,000 and punishment ranging from 3 months to two years. He called for laying stress on domestic child labour survey as the commercial survey has almost been completed. The DDC was speaking at a meeting of officers of various departments and social activists held to review the progress of achievements of NCLP under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Udhampur, O.P. Kalandria, here today. The DDC further disclosed that 16 schools under National Child Labour Project (NCLP) are proposed to be opened in the district. To start with, it was proposed to open one school each at Udhampur and Reasi towns initially on trial basis, the DDC said. The students admitted in such schools would be given monthly stipend of Rs.100 per month, free uniforms, books, meals, health care facilities and professional training as well with adequate staff, Mr. Kalandria maintained. The Chief Education Officer, Mr. V M Raina said that under central sponsored “Bridge Course” scheme he can also assist such children living in hilly and scattered population areas by admitting them in the nearby schools with other required facilities. Among others, Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Udhampur, District Social Welfare Officer, CMO, Asstt. Project Director, DRDA, GM Industries, SDM Dudu-Basantgarh, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Programme Officer and Project Officer, ICDS, Udhampur, Superintendent Post Offices and Social Worker, Sita Ram Sharma attended the meeting.
