| Members urge for immediate, comprehensive rehabilitation of affected people | | Discussion on Khundroo incident concludes | | Srinagar, August 23 – The discussion on Khundroo incident which was started on Tuesday in Legislative Assembly concluded today with Chief Minister . Ghulam Nabi Azad’s reply. In today’s one and half hour long discussion on Arms Ammunition Depot fire at Khundroo eleven members from both treasury and opposition benches took part and expressed their views. . Sham Lal Sharma said that such incidents can take place any time any where and there are instances that such disasters have taken place in the past. He said that the state administration showed prompt response for rescuing and providing relief to the affected people. . Gharu Ram said that the collective efforts of civil and police administration supplemented by the Army and NGOs were helpful for timely evacuation of the affected people and establishing relief camps for them. . Qaiser Jamsheed Lone said that a well evolved and applicable rehabilitation policy be adopted for the affected people. He said that precautionary measures need to be taken for least occurrence of such incidents. . Mubarak Gul said that while establishing ammunition depots concerns of civil population and environmental degradation should be taken care off. . Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari suggested that the legislators should offer their one month salary towards the rehabilitation fund for the affected people of Khundroo. He also said that the funds under CDF can also be diverted for the purpose. . Jugal Kishore (BJP) strongly advocated relocation of such ammunition depots and said that these should be established far from habitations. . Yashpal Kundal demanded shifting of ammunition depot from Samba to a safer place and . Abdul Majid Wani also demanded relocation of ammunition depots and said that early rehabilitation of Khundroo sufferers should ensured. . Raman Mattoo said that the efforts of the government are appreciable but at the same time he suggested for a more concerted approach to rehabilitate the affected people. Although the members divulged on various aspects of aftermath situation but they were unanimous in demanding relocation of all such ammunition depots and providing early relief to the affected people of Khundroo incident and stressed upon the government to take long and short-term remedial measures for the rehabilitation of affected people.
