| 1112 hand pumps installed so far during current fiscal in water scarcity areas: Dilawar | | | Srinagar, August 23 – Minister for PHE . Mohammad Dilawer Mir has said that during last financial year 3680 hand pumps have been installed as against target of 3557 hand pumps in various areas of the state by PHE department. He said during current financial year 1112 hand pumps have been installed so far. He said that a proposal for installation of additional 900 hand pumps costing Rs. 18 crores has been submitted to the Central Government under ARWSP to augment the drinking water facilities in water scarcity areas. Replying to a half an hour discussion initiated by . Lal Mohammad Sabir regarding “criteria for installation of hand pumps”, . Mir said one hand pump is to be installed for 200 to 250 souls in water scarcity areas where no piped water supply is available and once hand pumps are provided, no piped water supply can be given as per guidelines issued by Government of India. He informed that hand pumps are installed after proper survey by the department on the sites identification on the basis of public demand after consultation with the public representatives.
