| BJP seeks CM’s resignation | | | Jammu: Terming Ghulam Nabi Azad as the weakest Chief Minister the state of Jammu and Kashmir had ever seen, BJP State President Ashok Khajuria today asked him to quit and pave way for fresh election so that the people are able to elect a new assembly. He said Ghulam Nabi Azad has not fared well in any of the areas during all these 19 months of his rule. He said, “The unemployed technocrats, including engineers and agricultural graduates, are sitting on dharna and organizing protest demonstrations. The unemployed graduates and post graduates have been fending for themselves. The people are without electricity, drinking water and health-care facilities. The ration depots san ration. “ “Corruption during all these months has assumed alarming proportions, with even the advisors of the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues openly asking the Chief Minister to allow them to indulge in corrupt practices so that the money which the state has received from the centre during the past 19 months could be exhausted. The Chief Minister is himself surrounded by ministers with links with militants—something which he himself has acknowledged. Assembly is not functioning smoothly, with members belonging to the ruling coalition itself pulling into the different directions unable to withstand the opposition onslaught. Ghulam Nabi Azad’s ministry consists of elements who are responsible for the sudden death of an innocent employee of Rural Development Department” he added. Khajuria said these are only a few examples which indicate the utter failure of the Chief Minister to discharge his constitutional obligations as well as the obligations towards the people and hence he has forfeited all his rights to function as the state Chief Minister. Ashok Khajuria said Jammu and Kashmir is a very sensitive state where the writ of the militants is running and it simply cannot afford to have such a government as the one heeded by the Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. The state wants a government which is people-centric, state- centric and nation-centric and which crushes corrupt elements and separatists with a heavy hand. Referring to the plight of refugees from West Pakistan, he said they are leading a miserable life. The refugees from PoK have not obtained their due compensation. The problems of the refugees of 1965 and 1971 have not been mitigated. The refugees who are in possession of Custodian Properties have not been granted ownership rights.
