The EP tenants, represented by the welfare society has been demanding for quite long now for grant of long term lease in their favour, to avoid undue harassment to them. They also demanded that a system should be evolved under which permission is granted expeditiously to the tenants to undertake necessary repairs, alternations and additions in the houses allotted to them, without any enhancement of rent, since by making these alternations and additions they are spending money from their own pockets and adding to the value of EP property in their occupation. The deputation also demanded speedy transfer of lease in favour of the dependents of the original lessee in case of his/her death as well as transfer in other genuine cases. The custodian general in the presence of the representatives of the tenants issued instructions to the custodian Jammu for not issuing any more notices to the tenants for renewal of the rent deeds, till the government takes decision on his proposal to grant long term lease in favour of the occupants. The deputationists had earlier complaint to the Custodian General about harassment being caused to the tenants by serving them notices of termination of the allotments, in case they fail to enter into fresh rent deeds with the department on enhanced rents.
