Lease to EP tenants likely to be considered
8/23/2007 10:44:05 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORTER
Jammu, August 23
A deputation of Evacuee Property Tenants
Welfare Society, Jammu Province, which under the leadership of Sh.
Krishanlal Gupta, Chairman of the society had called on the Custodian
General Evacuee Property Kifayat Hussain Razvi, here today, was given
assurance by the latter that he would shortly submit a detailed
proposal to the government for granting 40 years long term lease in
favour of the tenants of the urban property, which stand allotted to
them. The EP tenants, represented by the welfare society has been
demanding for quite long now for grant of long term lease in their
favour, to avoid undue harassment to them.
The deputationists which besides Sh. Krishanlal Gupta included other
members of the executive as Banarsi Das Angral President, Nazir Ahmed
Sr. vice President, Master Mansa Ram Vice President, Suraj Ram Sharma
Gen. Sec. and Rattan Sawhney Treasurer, forcefully presented their
case before the Custodian General, in presence of the Custodian EP
Jammu A M Wani and pleaded for foolproof measures to spare the tenants
of harassment at the hands of any official of the EP Department, on
flimsy grounds and under one pretext or the other.
They also demanded that a system should be evolved under which
permission is granted expeditiously to the tenants to undertake
necessary repairs, alternations and additions in the houses allotted
to them, without any enhancement of rent, since by making these
alternations and additions they are spending money from their own
pockets and adding to the value of EP property in their occupation.
The deputation also demanded speedy transfer of lease in favour of the
dependents of the original lessee in case of his/her death as well as
transfer in other genuine cases.
The custodian general in the presence of the representatives of the
tenants issued instructions to the custodian Jammu for not issuing any
more notices to the tenants for renewal of the rent deeds, till the
government takes decision on his proposal to grant long term lease in
favour of the occupants.
The deputationists had earlier complaint to the Custodian General
about harassment being caused to the tenants by serving them notices
of termination of the allotments, in case they fail to enter into
fresh rent deeds with the department on enhanced rents.
