| OIL TANKERS GROUNDED,IOL EMPLOYEES STRUCK WORK | | | Jammu, July 01 Following arrest of former terminal manager of the Indian oil corporation, Ambala cantonment, Sunil Kumar Bisht by Jammu and Kashmir police in Leh in connection with the oil pilferage scam, IOL depots here have stopped filling of oil tankers,meant for carrying regular supply of petroleum and diesel products to far flung areas across the state. As many as 200 oil tankers in Jammu and Kashmir remained grounded today. In the absence of any alternate arrangements, the supply of diesel and petroleum products to forward areas in Ladakh,kargil and Kashmir valley may be hit hard. According to reports reaching here, Sunil Kumar Bisht was earlier attached was summoned by the Leh police in connection with the ongoing investigations in the oil pilferage scam which hit the headlines in July 2005. Sources in police said the police investigating team was trying to establish the link between the source of oil pilferage to ascertain the modus operandi of the culprits in the scam. The role of Sunil Kumar who was terminal manager in Amabala cantonment had come under scanner as the keys of the oil tankers, after filling the tanker, was kept with the terminal manager and without it it was not possible to tamper with the contents of the oil tanker,sources said.President of the J&K oil tanker owners association Anan Sharma told KIP that IOL depots have stopped filling oil tankers following strike.He said large number of oil tankers were grounded in Jammu due to non-availability of oil supplies. It may be mentioned that Sunil Kumar was earlier arrested by the CBI for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs two lakh from a transporter in September 2005, for engaging his two oil tankers for carrying petroleum products to various parts of the country.
