Jammu Aug 26- On the 10th consecutive day hundreds of residents of Sarwal, Upper and Lower Laxmi Nagar, Subash Nagar, Prem Nagar, Vikas Nagar, Tali Morh, Jawahar Nagar and New Plots along with large number of BJP labour cell activist continued their sit in blocking the vehicular traffic on High Court and other routes in the area here today in protest against the acute scarcity of drinking water.
The protestors under the aegis of ‘Jammu West Assembly Movement’ led by its President Sunil Dimple lodged a strong protest against the government’s failure in providing adequate supply of drinking water in the water scarce areas. The protestors broke pitchers and burnt the effigies of the government, Chief Minister, Mangat Ram and Dilawar Mir.
Addressing the protestors Dimple said that though the people of the area have been clamoring for drinking water for the last over a year but the coalition government has done little to mitigate this urgent and basic problem of the residents of the area He said that senior Ministers including the CM were misleading the people by hallow assurances and Azad’s latest apology to the people of Jammu on this score was just to hide the failure of the Congress led government.
Dimple asked the government to take people into confidence as to what it was doing to overcome this growing problem and claimed that the people have boycotted to take water being supplied through tankers. He demanded immediate installation of 30 approved tube wells apart from providing voltage stabilizers in all the PHE sub-stations.
