Gopal Sharma inaugurates Police-Public Mela

Srinagar August 26: Thousands of people from all over Kashmir valley thronged Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonawar, to have the fun and participate in annual Police-Public Mela organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association.
The Security Advisor to Chief Minister Gopal Sharma inaugurated the police Public Mela here today amid enthusiasm and fanfare. Senior police and civil officers were also present on the occasion.
The Mela, an annual feature forms the part of efforts of Police Wives Welfare Association to generate resources for helping police personnel, their families, widows and martyrs.
Describing the mela a sincere effort of Jammu and Kashmir Police organization to reach out to the people for keeping up and promoting the people friendly image of the police, Sharma said that such events help largely in achieving the cherished objectives greatly. He also exhorted Welfare Association Members and Police fraternity to rise to the occasion for caring the families of their colleagues in a true spirit of camaraderie.
The Security Advisor appreciated the police organization for taking several measures for the welfare of police personnel and their families, He said new dimensions were added by the department to its welfare programmes for police personnel over last few years.
Talking to media persons on the occasion, the Director General of Police . Kuldeep Khoda, said that the objective of holding such meals is to generate resources for implementing various welfare schemes for Jammu and Kashmir police personnel and their families, besides providing free medical cover, interest free loans, premium for group insurance schemes, meritorious scholarships, special rewards to the brilliant wards of the police personnel and besides supporting orphans and widows of the police personnel who have made scarifies for the integrity.
Khoda said, that comradeship exhibited by the officers and jawans of Jammu and Kashmir police for their fellow personnel particularly during the last few years has been commendable and the organization is more a family than just a government department. He said holding of such event is of great significance. The mela has emerged as one of the favorite attraction for the last six years with people avidly waiting for the grand event, he said.
Chairperson J&K Police Wives Welfare Association, Dr Indo Koul briefed the visiting dignitaries about the objectives of organizing the Mela and said that sale proceeds realized from the selling of various items kept in different stalls would be utilized for the welfare of police personnel and their families with special attention on the martyrs, widows.
Sharma alongwith Director General of Police, Mr.Kuldeep Khoda, Chairperson JKWWA Dr,Indu Koul, Senior Police officers and all members of Welfare Association also visited all the stalls displayed in the mela and evinced keen interest in the products.
The main attractions of the Mela were raffle draw, lucky dip, tambala, Kashmiri embroidery, Ladakhi crafts, Phulkari work, target shooting, applying Mehandi, walnut and willow furniture, Basholi paintings, delicious snacks, rides and jhulas, free medical camp. On-the-spot painting competition for wards of police personnel, attractive games and cultural entertainment items also marked the day-long celebration.
The star attraction of the mega event was (One Scorpio Car), (Three Marutis) and (Five Motorcycles) as 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes of the raffle draw on the occasion.
Later in the after-noon the prizes for Lucky Draw were announced in presence of Director General of Police, Chairperson, JKPWWA, senior police officers and all members of Welfare Association. Small children drawn from the mammoth gathering present on the occasion drew the raffle draw numbers for prizes of different categories.
The first prize (Scorpio) was won by ticket No.A-54297, 2nd prize (Blue Maruti-800) won by ticket No.A-58583, (white Maruti-800) won by ticket No. A-35720, (Silver Maruti-800), won Ticket No. A-95823, 3rd prize (Red Colour Motorcycle) won by ticket No.B-81035,(Blue motorcycle) won by ticket No.A-25423, (Black Motor cycle) won by ticket No.B-00916, (Silver Motor cycle ) won by ticket No.A-22017, (Red Motorcycle) won by ticket No.B-71609.
Likewise, other consolation prizes, (4th prize) comprising of five Computers P-IV were clinched by ticket Nos: B-79036, A-94731, A-31787, A-35680 and A-65231.
Similarly 5th prize (Handycam Camera) has gone to ticket No.B-40450,6th prize(CTV 21”) won by ticket No.B-22242, 7th prize (A.C. 1.5 ton) won by ticket No.B-16618, 8th prize (Refrigerator 165 ltr) won by tiocket5 No.B-78699, 9th prize ((Aqua Guard) won by ticket No A-08812, 10th prize (Carpet) won by ticket No.B-96797, 11th prize (Cooker Panasonic) won by ticket No.B-10995, 12th prize (Philips Stereo) won by ticket No.A-26755, 13th prize (200 prizes of Rs. 500/-) each won by ticket Nos: with last 3 digits : 082 (A-B series) and 14th prize (2000 prizes of Rs.100/-) each won by ticket Nos. with last 2 digits 29 (A-B series).
Blue Maruti Car won by Altaf Hussain ticket holder No. A-58583, a graduate of Suthrashahi Karannagar, Srinagar, 5th prize Handicam Camera won to Mr. Mohammad Gafoor of Rajouri ticket holder No. B-40450 and 7th prize A.C 1.5 ton won by Mohammad Yaseen of Anantnag holding ticket No. B-16618. The prize winners, present among viewers were handed over these prizes on-the-spot by the Director General of Police and Chairperson Jammu and Kashmir Wives Association Dr. Indu Koul.
Later the prize winners as well as viewers appreciated transparent holding of raffle draw.
