| Div Com reviews water scenario, assured adequate supply | | | JAMMU, AUGUST 26 - Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey today convened a press conference regarding present water scenario here today. Divisional Commissioner informed the media persons that total water supply requirement of Jammu city is 35 million gallons. He said that due to recent flash flood situation in Tawi river, Sitlee filtration plant is unable to fulfill the water supply requirement in Sitlee affected areas like New plot, Sarwal, Janipur, Chinore and other areas and only 70 lakh gallons water supply is carried out which is half of the total requirement of the Sitlee affected areas. He said the PHE department has taken short term measures to solve the water scarcity problem which include water supply through tankers, installation of water storage Tanks in different parts of city, Pumps and construction of Tube-wells. He said that with such measures approximately 30-40 lakh gallon requirement of water will be accomplished in the Sitlee affected areas. Mr. Pandey said that renovation work on Sitlee plant is under process and would be completed in the beginning of next year. He said that in order to manage the water scarcity problems in affected areas of Jammu city, PHE department provided 64 water tanks for whole city out of which 41 tanks are used in old city itself. Schedule for water supply to different localities will be notified in leading newspaper for public knowledge. During Press conference, media persons made queries regarding water shortage in Jammu city to the Divisional Commissioner and concerned officers of PHE department. The officers of PHE department apprised them about various steps they have taken to tackle the situation. Among those who participated in the press Conference, DDC Jammu Mr.Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Mayor Narinder Singh, Chief Engineer PHE, Mr. Vinod Goswami, S.E PHE, XEN and others officers of the departments.
