| Nirmal visit Basohli, flays authorities | | |
Jammu: BJP National Executive Member and former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh undertook two-day intensive tour of Karanbara, Plassi, Nagtora, Haripur, Mara and Keleri areas of Basohli assembly constituency. At these places, Dr. Nirmal Singh interacted with the people, who apprised him of the problems being faced by them and held meetings with the party workers. Dr. Nirmal Singh, while addressing party workers at one of meeting at Karanbara, charged the successive National Conference and Congress governments of giving step-motherly treatment to the panchayats. He said the State Chief Minister talks of bringing revolution in the state at all levels but has failed to strengthen the democracy at the grass-roots level. He said the much publicized decision of the government to enhance salaries of Nambardars and Chowkidars to just Rs. 501 is an eye wash which is for less than a labourer’s income. He demanded provision of salary for panches and sarpanches also. Dr. Nirmal Singh said there is widespread resentment among the people living in rural areas against the Ghulam Nabi Azad led government as the Chief Minister during the two years has only given slogans and done nothing tangible on the ground. A glance at the slogans and factual position will show that Ghulam Nabi Azad has proved to be the weakest Chief Minister. Dr. Nirmal Singh also took the Congress-led coalition to task for not mitigating the problems of the anganwari worker. He said, while in Kashmir any decision regarding anganwari workers is taken on seniority basis, but unfortunately pick and choose policy is adopted in such cases in Jammu region. Speaking on Chief Minister’s slogan of eradicating corruption, Dr. Nirmal Singh said the Chief Minister was never sincere in getting the corruption eradicated. Had the Chief Minister been really committed to root out corruption, most of the ministers and MLAs of Congress and PDP would have been out of their jobs. Distt. President Ved Parkash Mankotia, Mandal President Ajit Singh, Distt. Vice-president Devinder Singh, Yuva Morcha leader Suneet Singh, Joginder Purohit, Krishan Chand Pachiala, Mast Ram and a number of other prominent party leaders and activists accompanied Dr. Singh during his visit to these areas.
