8/27/2007 11:04:20 PM

Jammu, August 27
While accusing the ruling Congress of muzzling the voice of the opposition, Panthers Party leader, Harsh Dev Singh today said, “My suspension from the Assembly was part of the plan to stifle my voice and prevent me from forcing the speaker to initiate contempt proceedings against ministers.”
He said that he had submitted a petition to the speaker listing reasons for initiating contempt proceedings against several ministers and when the Congress leaders felt they were unsafe they conspired to suspend “me from the House.” Explaining it, he said that had the speaker taken cognizance of “my petition some of the ministers could have even been arrested.”
Harsh Dev Singh said that he had, in his petition, informed the speaker that that several ministers had made a commitment on the floor of the House which they had not fulfilled and as per the House rules they were liable to face contempt proceedings. He said that earlier his suggestion on filling district posts within the district was accepted by the Government but so far the assurance had not been fulfilled and district posts were kept open for candidates all over the state to apply for. He said that the Government assured the house that parity of wages between the two regions would be restored. He explained that when he had raised the issue during the budget session of the House that in Kashmir valley daily wagers earned Rs.2100 per month against Rs.500 in the Jammu region and the Government had promised to set the wrong right but it was not done. He said that regarding the issue of regularization of Assistant surgeons he had raised the issue that those who had been appointed as Assistant surgeons for the last nine to 10 years their services be regularized and the Government had promised to do it.The promise was not fulfilled and hence the Health Minister was liable to face contempt proceedings.
Harsh Dev said that he had given a long list of violation of commitments given by the ministers in his petition to the speaker and by “suspending me from the House the Ministers have succeeded in saving their skim.” He said he will continue to raise these issues besides the plight of Talwara migrants.
