Mangat’s hasty decision made hero out of Harshdev: Cong leaders
8/27/2007 11:04:45 PM

Jammu, August 27
Several Congress leaders and MLAs appear unhappy with the haste Mangat Ram Sharma, Health Minister, adopted in pushing a resolution in the Assembly that resulted in the suspension of Panthers Party leader, Harsh Dev Singh, from the House for the remaining period of the session.
Some Congress legislators today said that Mangat Ram Sharma’s sudden decision to secure suspension of Harsh Dev Singh from the House had not only infused life in the Panthers Party but made a hero of Harsh. They said that the Panthers Party got an issue to strike against the Congress in the Jammu region and it was confirmed by the way the Panthers Party could garner peoples’ support for its rallies in various parts of the region while protesting against the Congress.
These legislators expressed their surprise over the way Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, adopted a passive role when he was supposed to intervene and settle the issue. They said they way Mangat Ram pleaded for suspension of Harsh Dev from the House clearly indicated that the Health Minister wanted to settle his personal score with the Panthers Party MLA which had proved counter productive for the Congress.
One of the MLAs said that if Mangat Ram had the idea of putting the Talwara migrant issue in the background he was mistaken. He admitted that Panthers Party, which had been quite vocal in highlighting the problems of Talwara migrants causing discomfiture to the ruling coalition, had sidelined the migrants issue by focusing its attention of Harsh’s suspension. He said the digression was temporary and the Panthers Party plans to revive its agitation against what it calls step motherly treatment meted out to Talwara migrants. The Congress legislators suggested to the Chief Minister to initiate some steps for suitable rehabilitation of border migrants failing which the Panthers Party could use it during its campaign in the next election.
