| SEX SCAM MAY RUIN CONGRESS’S REVIVAL PLAN IN KASHMIR | | | Jammu, July 1 :- The sex scam has seemingly put spikes in the Congress plan of regaining its ground in the Kashmir valley. Though only one Congress legislator, Mr G.A.Mir, has been arrested on charge of his involvement in the sex scandal, his involvement, being considered close not only to the Chief Minister but to senior AICC leaders in Delhi, has given a setback to the Congress in Kashmir. Inside reports said that the CBI sleuths were preparing the ground for the arrest of several other congress and National Conference leaders and if it materialised the dream of the congress to gain advantage from the PDP and National Conference conflict may not be realised. When Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad took over as Chief Minister the Congress formulated a strategy that emphasis be laid on completion of development works in the Kashmir valley which could help the congress to gain support of people in the valley. Accordingly, bigger funds were allotted for the development schemes than in the Jammu region and all the NABARD projects had gone to Kashmir leaving people in the Jammu region high and dry. The strategy was the outcome of the congress leaders' belief that the party is placed on a advantageous position in the Jammu region after the emaciation in the BJP strength which has also split following its vicepresident, Mr Chander Mohan Sharma revived Praja Parishad as a parallel unit to the BJP. However, the congress plan has gone awry thanks to sex scam kingpin,Sabeena's disclosures. Eyewitness accounts in the Kashmir valley said that the sex scam has not only hit hard the congress but other political parties, bureaucrats and police officials. These accounts said that with the opening of Sabeena's mouth the entire administrative and political structure in Kashmir has been rocked. There is a sort of upheaval in the Kashmiri society. These days one does not inquire about the welfare of the other. The usual refrain is "are you not involved in the sex scam?” Another fallout of the scam is on the unity of the bar associations in Jammu and Kashmir. The members of the two associations are at loggerheads at present. And the members of the Jammu Bar Association displayed their anger against the Kashmir bar by burning the effigy of Mian Abdul Qayoom. One senior member of the Jammu Bar Association told Kashmir Independent Press on Saturday "we are permitted to defend a murderer. It is strange that we are not allowed to plead the case of those involved in the sex scam."
