| Sightless women celebrate rakhi with soldiers | | Offered prayers for their long lives | |
Jammu, August 28 Carrying packets of sweets and self made rakhis, when a group of blind women from National Association for the Blind reached border area in RS Pura sector eyes of large number of jawans missing their sisters back home, turned moist. The women had come there to celebrate rakhi with the jawans of Indian army and offered prayers for their long lives.In return the jawans also took pledge to safeguard their honour and pride. “I was feeling lonely since early morning but when I saw a group of blind women coming to our camp to celebrate the festival of rakhi I was jumping with joy, Ashwani Shukla said at the octroi post in RS Pura sector. Today these blind women have established a fresh bond with all our men. They put tilak on our masthead, tied rakhis on our wrists and offered us sweets, everything was so real and we never felt that we are meeting them for the first time, another jawan with tears in his eyes said. It may be mentioned that a group of blind women traveled from Mumbai to the border area for celebrating the festival with the jawans of the Indian army posted in Jammu and Kashmir. Ashwani Shukla along with several other jawans felt excited with rakhis on their wrists. He said “We would have missed our sisters living in far-off villages had the girls not turned up to tie rakhis around our wrists”. Shanta Nar Sina, leader of the group said, we are overwhelmed with the response of the army jawans and their hospitality. "We are lucky and fortunate to have celebrated the day in the company of army jawans on the border. She said we prayed for their long lives and they took pledge that they will save our honour and lives.
